A new edition of the MENA’s largest app and mobile technology conference in the Middle East threw the spotlight on how a global app can emerge from the MENA region. Taking place on 1 and 2 October, 2014, at the Jumeirah Beach Hotel, Dubai, the second edition of The Global App Summit 2014 discussed the future of mobile and wearable technology, Internet of Things, the Smart City, as well as outline the path for a global app to emerge from the region. The event also featured App Idol Awards for regional app developers where the award’s expert panel of judges assessed and evaluated the applicants’ entries based on the following attributes - cross platform, structure and navigation, visual design, unique idea, and overall experience. Innovators looking to raise capital applied for the Private Pitch Zone, making sure that their mobile app idea has to be original, and not posted on any application marketplace.
Their three to five minutes presentations were delivered verbally or through a short presentation or a video in private to the team of experts. The winners got the opportunity to be mentored by Stratis Ventures Inc., which will help them develop the app for an equity share in the app as a co-founder. Furthermore, the event’s App Expo showcased more than 75 top mobile technology companies exhibiting their latest apps and mobile developments. The two-day conference, which also included of panel discussions by global industry leaders, is organised by SPI Group in partnership with Dubai Economic Council and supported by Dubai Internet City.
